Huntington Again

Day 2
of Girl's Getaway
we headed over to the Huntington

Now remember
my daughter wanted to play with my camera
which means I was not able to get many shots,
but it also means that I have pictures of . . .

me.

Which was fun since,
like all of you
I'm usually behind the camera.

Of course, I had to take one of her too.

I love Girl's Getaway weekend.
When can we go again?

A Weekend Away

My youngest daughter
asked if we could have a mother daughter getaway.
Well if you know me at all
you know my answer was
tell me when and I'll be there.

To top it off,
what she wanted to do was photograph
the Huntington
which you all know is one of my favorite places.

My only challenge . . .
she wanted to take pics with my camera.
So I had to wrestle her to take any images.
But I got a few:
Here's a favorite.

 Have a great day!

Roses are red, and white, and yellow, and pink and peach, and . . .

I'm hoping you aren't sick of seeing the photos from the Huntington Botanical Gardens.
I promise I won't go on forever with them . . .
Maybe.

Anyway, welcome to the rose gardens.

They were also green, blue and purple
but I guess I didn't get any photos
you'll just have to trust me

and why shouldn't you?
I'm sending these just for you

Have a wonderful day!

Too Much Stuff - Never!

I must admit when my friend asked me to go to Huntington
I had no clue.
I didn't know that it was a research library,
where you could see
the Ellesmere manuscript of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales,
or see a copy of the Gutenberg Bible on vellum - on vellum!
Or that they had the double-elephant folio edition of Audubon's Birds of America
or the greatest collection of the early editions of Shakespeare.
I didn't know about any of that.

I knew there were gardens:

These are the cactus garden photos,
some of them anyway.

I also didn't know at Huntington there was a house,
an old house,
filled with art!
including Thomas Gainsborough’s Blue Boy,
among others of Gainsborough's work.
as well as Reynolds’ Sarah Siddons as the Tragic Muse
and Thomas Lawrence’s “Pinkie”
"Pinkie" and "Blue Boy" were so cute!

I was told the cactus garden would be in bloom,
But not that the large drawing room, (yes, large because there was a small one too)
was decorated with 18th century French art works on display.
(I knew this would get your attention, mes amis français.)

The colors!

I was told I wouldn't be able to photograph the inside
no flash photography
and my camera was not prepared to do otherwise
this trip : )

I do feel lucky though
at capturing all this.

In one day.

Thank you my friend for showing me
The Huntington,
surely one of California's biggest secrets.

This is not me, but
ma très magnifique amie,
Judy.

The Green Houses

At the Huntington Library
not only are there gardens
there are also greenhouses.

That housed these . . .

 and these . . .

and these . . .

I was only going to post the white flowers,
but this one had to make it in,
don't you agree?

More white . . .

I have to tell you
It's heavenly

For someone who likes to . . .

photograph flowers!

Just so you can prepare yourselves,
we still have the cactus gardens
which were in bloom
and the rose gardens
which were also in bloom
and . . .
some more!

Huntington Library Continued

A number of you wanted to know where the Huntington Library is.
It is located in San Marino, Caifornia
(very close to my favorite tea shop in Monrovia)
Today I thought I'd show you a few photos from the Chinese gardens.
I love the offering that was left.

Tea was being served - and some lunch.

T
hese incredible arches framed some beautiful foliage.

And you might not know, but I've got a thing for lily pads.

A sweet sitting area.
Can you believe how beautiful this is?
Ahhhh.
