It's Pink Day Again

Once again it's Pink Saturday.
Please join all the pinkies at

Thank you so much, Beverly,
for hosting this meme every week.
This week while at the airport,
yes, I know I'm there a lot,
I sat beside a young man.
I picked up my knitting and he turned to me and said,
"Good afternoon."

I was shocked.
I thought he might be talking on the phone,
but, no.
He was talking to me.
He proceeded to tell me, at twenty,
this was his first time flying
and he was frightened.
I told him my story about the little girl
who sat beside me and was also on her
first flight.
I told her I fly twice a week -at least -
and had been flying that much for
fifteen years.
She nodded and asked me,
So how many times have you crashed?

The young man laughed with me.
I encouraged him all would be well.
On the plane a very nice older woman asked to sit beside me.
She had an overstuffed bag and when she
leaned over to dig something out
I thought perhaps yarn?
But no,
she dug out
her rosary.
Then she proceeded to pray and cross herself.
For a brief moment I wondered,
if I was being told something.
But no, the flight was uneventful.

But both people were looking for something.
The young man, confirmation that
following his dreams was a legitimate choice.

My opinion: Always follow your dreams.

The older woman, an encouraging word.
She was flying to Texas to be with an ailing mother.

My opinion: Always follow your heart.

In return,
I too received something.

Blessings from them both.
The only thing I had to do, was
follow my dream, follow my heart and then open my mouth..

I hope your day is filled with blessings.

  1. So lovely! Someday you could write a book on all of your airport stories. The two you just shared are very sweet. :)

  4. Dear Jean: Happy Pink Saturday! Your post touched me personally. I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I have never flown in my life as I am terrified of the prospect. My fear started as a young child and has grown into a big scary monster as I have aged. It almost sounds silly writing this but the fear is VERY real. I'm glad for that young man that you were able to help make him feel better about flying.

  7. Sometimes the most basic conversations make the biggest differences in a person's life. Those people needed you at that moment and you are open enough to welcome them in .

  8. Happy Pink Saturday, I miss participating and can't wait to join back in the fun. Thank you for sharing such a cute sweet story, I hate to fly also and haven't in years. I'm happy you had a chance to stop by and see my new house, I really love the beachy feel we have and it's so wonderful to wake up to the duck and swans in our back yard. I am so blessed. I hope you have a wonderful upcoming week!
    Hugz,
    Kim

  10. Hi Jean, Thank you so much for stopping by my blog. Of course you would catch the only post where I am expressing frustration. Isn't this always the case. It feels as though I have gone to the store in my comfy clothes and run into a friend beautifully dressed for the day. (I care about these things sad to say) Oh well, I just wanted to say that I don't value a clean house over my family or one very large white puppy who loves to dig in the dirt. (I care about someone knowing this about me)Your writing is lovely, exactly the style I adore best. So happy to know of you. Elizabeth

  16. A very sweet Post. I am so afraid to fly, I have, but it's quite traumatic for me, so I'm so happy you could talk to the young man and make him smile.
    Blessings to you!

  19. What wonderful encounters you had while flying. You were able to give reassurance to two strangers and lift their burdens a bit. I used to hate to fly (I've been flying since 1954-prop planes-the worst!) but I finally came to the conclusion that it was better to fly and have more time to spend where you were going than to waste that time in a car, or train or bus.
Thank you for visiting today. I love it when folks say hi.
