French Book Club Dinner

With my book club we are reading:
Lunch in Paris: A Love Story, with Recipes
by Elizabeth Bard

So one of the girls suggested we get together
for dinner instead of just meeting.
Sounded like a great idea to me.

Then I volunteered to cook.
Which, between you and me
and no one else - example Hubby,
who currently cooks most meals and every day,
I like to cook
occasionally.
And French!, well count me in.

SOOOO I'm cooking "le dîner" (dinner) for
six!
l'entrée - appetizers
la soupe - soup
le plat principal - main course
 le fromage - cheese
 la salade - salad
le dessert - DESSERT!!!!
ALL
pas la farine = WITH NO FLOUR!
Yes, one of mon amies eats gluten free.

So this is where your help is desperately needed.
I'm planning: almond crusted pork loin for the main meat
and I will have a field salad with fresh herbs and french vinaigrette.

Aside from that,
I'm lost . . .
So what is a girl to do but turn to her besties, right?

Please,
Please,
Please,
Let me know if you have some ideas/or recipes for me.

Lots of love and appreciation.

  1. Oh Wow! That sounds wonderful AND challenging! I have never had to cook glutton free before... maybe a fruit tart for dessert???? Yikes!

Is the book good? I haven't heard of it before.

  2. Flourless chocolate cake for dessert?
Appetizer perhaps something I had at a restaurant once. Cut sticks (about pencil thick) of a hard french cheese, put a leaf or two of arugula on top, and perhaps a fresh herb, then roll it up in a thin slice of jambon, then drizzle with a little bit of olive oil. I actually had this at an Italian restaurant and recreated at home with fontina cheese, arugula, prosciuotto. Very easy and well liked.

    Good luck!

  3. Go with some basics. Le fromage is a no brainer...brie or camembert. Put out some crudite and dip for the appetizer. We like French onion soup and there are some wonderful breads on the market that are gluten free.

  4. This sounds like a lot of fun! But, also a lot of work! I wish I had some advice when it comes to French cooking... I'm afraid I only know some French and that's about it.

    I hope everything goes well!
